Our Story

April 2010: A Humble Beginning in Taichung

Our journey began in April 2010 in the vibrant city of Taichung. Classic and Chairs started as a quaint shop that combined Nordic vintage furniture with coffee. We aimed to use coffee as a medium to introduce Nordic vintage furniture to fellow enthusiasts. Tucked away in an old house within a quiet alley, reminiscent of the charming small shops found in Tokyo’s streets, we hoped passersby would discover us by chance, entering our store with a sense of curiosity and delight.

Focusing on Vintage Furniture

In the beginning, Classic and Chairs specialized in vintage furniture from the 1960s. To meet growing demand, we expanded our collection to include iconic brands such as Japan’s カリモク60 (Karimoku 60) and Denmark’s Carl Hansen & Son, known for their timeless design and superior craftsmanship.

February 2014: Expanding Our Horizons

By February 2014, we unveiled our second-floor showroom, featuring an expanded range of カリモク60 vintage pieces, along with other brands under the KARIMOKU umbrella: Karimoku, HARU, KITONO, and Karimoku New Standard. We also introduced TOLIX and HAY. This blend of modern, colorful presentations of vintage furniture attracted a younger, more diverse clientele.

May 2018: A New Chapter in a Historic Setting

In May 2018, we relocated to a 40-year-old house near the Fifth Market. By preserving traditional elements like terrazzo floors, cypress wood, and fogged glass windows, we created a harmonious blend of Taiwan’s historical charm and iconic designs from around the world. Our main exhibits included exclusive brands like Karimoku Case Study and other KARIMOKU lines: Karimoku, Karimoku New Standard, HARU, KITONO, and Karimoku Cat. Our lighting section featured selections from Spain’s Marset, Denmark’s Louis Poulsen and VIPP, as well as outstanding brands from Germany, Sweden, the UK, and Latvia.
